Here’s how we get it.

Step by step

1. Source. Once a day we read each tracked ranch’s public Shopify product feed (/products.json). We track 16 ranches. We don’t log in, scrape checkout, or use private data.
2. Cut matching. Product titles are matched to cuts (Organ blend, Ground beef, Wagyu ground beef, Burger patties, Ground bison, Ribeye, New York strip, Filet mignon, Brisket, Sirloin, Chuck roast, Short ribs, Stew meat, Beef liver, Tallow & suet). Bundles, boxes, samplers, subscriptions, cow shares, wholesale listings, gift cards, cooked items, jerky and non-food items (like tallow skincare) are excluded.
3. Weight. We use the weight stated in the variant or product title (e.g. “1 lb”, “4 × 8 oz”). If none is stated we fall back to the shop’s shipping weight and say so, because it may include packaging.
4. Sanity check. If the title weight and shipping weight disagree by more than 25%, or the price per pound falls outside a plausible range for that cut, the listing is left out. Excluded listings are counted on each ranch page.
5. Price. The listed one-time price. Shipping, tax, subscribe-and-save, coupons and minimum orders are ignored, so your checkout total can differ.
6. Sales. A sale is shown only when the ranch itself lists a higher “compare at” price on the product.
7. Feed claims. “Grass-fed” and “grass-finished” tags come from the ranch’s own product text. We don’t certify or verify them.
8. Ranking. Tables are always sorted by price per pound. No ranch can pay to change the order.
